Born in 1981, Kwangho Lee is an iconic figure of the Korean contemporary art and design scene. After majoring in Metal Art and Design at Hongik University, Lee began his career producing furniture and light installations.
Lee’s use of artisanal techniques is informed by his upbringing in a small rural town, which allowed Lee to observe closely and mimic his grandfather’s tool making skills. 'Composition in blue' (2020), the solo exhibition in Seo1ul marks the beginning of Lee’s studio practice for generating artworks exclusively for exhibitions. Employing marble, copper, enamel, steel, in juxtaposition with PVC and nylon, Lee not only explores the expressive potentials of an array of traditional and industrial materials, but also recontextualizes them, inviting the viewer to contemplate the relationship between handicraft, design and art. With his recent mixed media sculpture, Kwangho Lee continues to explore the possibilities of industrial materials combined with folk art techniques, carving a kitsch niche between fine arts and handicraft.
이광호 작가는 1981년 경기도 구리 출생으로, 유년 시절 자연을 곁에 두고 자라면서 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 다양한 것들을 이용하여 놀이 도구를 만들고 그림 그리는 것에 흥미를 느끼며 성장하였다. 2007년 홍익대학교 금속조형 디자인과를 졸업한 후 다양한 재료들이 가진 특성을 탐구하였고 그 과정에서 얻어진 표현 방법을 끊임없이 반복하며 만들어진 결과를 이용하여 사물을 만들어낸다. 작가는 시간성을 담고 있는 사물과 그 사물이 위치하게 되는 공간의 관계, 그리고 더 나아가 나 자신과의 관계까지 자문해보는 작업을 이어가고 있다.
이광호 작가의 작업은 몬트리올 장식미술관, 샌프란시스코 현대미술관, 홍콩 M+ 미술관, 시드니 MAAS 미술관, 리움미술관, 대구미술관 등에 소장 되었고 에르메스, 펜디, 디올, 조말론 런던, 스와로브스키, 현대캐피탈, 아모레퍼시픽, 코오롱 등 세계적인 브랜드들과 협업하며 작업 세계를 넓히고 있다.
2011년 문화체육관광부가 선정 한 젊은 예술가상, 2013년 예올이 선정 한 올해의 젊은 공예인상을 수상하였으며, 2017년 브라질 MADE 페어에서 올해의 디자이너로 선정되며 국제적인 아티스트로 성장하고 있다.
