Bernar Venet was born in France in 1941 and is currently working based in Paris, Le Muy, and New York, where he actively engages in artistic activities. Influenced by American art and Marcel Duchamp's concept of the readymade since the 1960s, he began to contemplate radical art. He abandoned the tradition of French classical sculpture and embarked on conceptual works, presenting the concept of 'Monosemy' derived from mathematical semiotics. Moreover, he has suggested a new vision of what contemporary dynamic sculptures to be through the 'indeterminate line' which is entirely free from a certain pattern of steel to work with.
세계적인 현대 조각가 베르나르 브네는 1941년 프랑스에서 태어나 현재 파리와 르 뮈 그리고 뉴욕에 근거지를 두고 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있는 작가이다. 1960년대부터 미국미술과 마르셀 뒤샹의 레디메이드 개념의 영향으로 급진적인 예술에 대한 생각을 갖게 된 그는 프랑스 고전 조각의 전통을 버리고 개념적 작업에 착수하기 시작하였고, 이 후 수학적 기호학에서 나온 '단의성'이라는 개념을 제시했다. 또한, '비결정적인 선'이라는 철 조각작품들을 통해 조각에서의 전통적 규범에 도전하면서 현대조각의 비전을 새롭게 만들어가고 있는 작가이다.
