LEEAHN Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Choi Jeong Hwa, an installation artist who is a representative artist of the Korean contemporary art and also an icon of the Korean pop art during the 1990’s. The exhibition, titled 'Life Life', is the solo exhibition that this artist who was active in the world during the last 20 years as he got invited to biennales, exhibitions and projects held in all different parts of the world, is putting on for the first time in a commercial gallery. This exhibition was planned to introduce his artistic world by showcasing the key works including new ones and by organizing field installation project.

Along with Bahc Yiso, Kim Beom and Lee Bul, Choi Jeong-Hwa led the Korean pop art with his unique and diverse works at the center of the art in Seoul that grew fast during the 1990’s. He who is from the generation that experienced drastic modernization and economic growth continued to engage in his artistic activities with his own attitude and vision, mixed with humor, while addressing topics such as mass production, materialism, consumption culture, natural, artificial, originality and duplication. Moreover, he used a wide variety of materials ranging from plastic product to rubber, fabric, lighting, wire and all other types of everyday items and even the plastic duplicates of monumental installments. Likewise, his works speak his own language, going beyond the boundaries of art, design and architecture.

In the exhibition, his key installation works and the items owned by him will be exhibited at the B1 exhibition space, LEEAHN Gray. At the exhibition space, LEEAHN Red, located on the second floor, his new work, “Gift of the Century” produced for the LEEAHN Gallery exhibition, will be displayed. Moreover, the town project was planned to turn the town near the gallery into an area filled with vitality. His installation artworks, produced at the field including his items will be exhibited at fifteen residential areas. This installation project that will be carried out while the artist breathes along with these places was planned after he visited the field a number of times. This project is meaningful in the sense that the exhibition itself will go beyond the limited space and it will spread out to the surrounding areas, and the migration path to the gallery from the surrounding areas will be designed. Likewise, this project is likely to showcase Choi Jeong Hwa’s unique interpretation of place and space. The viewers will experience another kind of attractiveness that will enable them to experience his artistic world in greater detail as they follow the traces of his inspiration and labor. In particular, this installation which will be carried out based on the cooperation with the university students in Daegu is meaningful in the sense that the start and end of the exhibition will be shared with the residents.

LEEAHN Gallery is pleased that we are hosting Choi Jeong Hwa’s first solo exhibition at a commercial gallery and we hope that this exhibition will serve to highlight the artist’s artistic world from diverse angles. We hope that this will serve as the opportunity for the audience to appreciate the field where artworks breathe along with the surrounding. Moreover, we wish that the viewers can enjoy the spirit of the that unfolds under the autumn sky while walking slowly in the areas that the artist himself added on meaning to, while walking around.
