Kim Taek-Sang was born in 1958. He has undergraduate studies in fine arts at Choongang University and graduate studies in fine arts at Hongik University.
His work goes through the accumulation of colors, clear and transparent, over a long duration of time. The water penetrates the canvas and thereafter dries up. The repetition of such a process results in creating delicate sheets of overlapping colors.
He tries to minimize the artist’s control, displaying reverence for the material’s unique qualities and the given environment in order to have uncontrolled light. Because the artist believes that once he experiences the stats where he renounces his own purpose, something unaffected and amazing can be had that goes beyond the boundary.
Kim Taek-Sang’s work deeply explores the territory of the subtle light, and also captures simultaneously the transience of existence and its beauty with the passing of time.
김택상은 1958년에 태어났다. 그는 중앙대학교에서 미술 학부를 졸업하고 홍익대학교에서 미술 대학원을 마쳤다.
그의 작품은 오랜 시간 색채의 축적을 거쳐 명료하고 투명한 성격을 보인다. 캔버스에 물을 스며들게 하고, 후에 이를 말려 작업을 마무리한다. 이러한 과정의 반복은 여러 색을 층층이 쌓아 올려 섬세한 작품을 만들어 낸다.
그는 통제되지 않은 빛의 효과를 얻기 위해 작가 자신의 개입을 최소화하고, 재료가 가진 독특한 특성과 주어진 환경에 집중한다. 이러한 경험을 통해 작가가 의도하지 않았을 때 작품이 한계를 뛰어넘어 예측할 수 없는 새로움을 선사하는 놀라운 효과를 보았기 때문이다.
