Biography

Damien Hirst was born in 1965 in the UK and studied Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is a well-known British contemporary artist, and his works often feature motifs of skulls symbolizing the vanity of life and the futility of existence, which are considered his signature pieces. Hirst transforms this motif into a contemporary memento mori, juxtaposing the skull representing the end of life with the eternity symbolized by diamonds, paradoxically turning it into artwork. The excessively sparkling skull captivates the viewer's eyes by repeating our transient existence. Additionally, by putting butterflies onto canvas (butterfly color paintings), seemingly alive yet dead, the artist explores the themes of life and death through Art.
